A 1000Wh solar generator (portable power station) delivers roughly 850 usable watt-hours to AC appliances after inverter losses. That runs a typical ENERGY STAR full-size refrigerator for about 16 hours, a 30 W CPAP for three or more nights, or a Wi-Fi router for over a day. It will run a 1,500 W heater for only about half an hour.
How much power does a 1000Wh solar generator actually deliver?
Not the full 1,000 Wh. Converting battery power to household AC loses some energy as heat. EcoFlow’s runtime guide suggests multiplying capacity by 0.80 to 0.90 for AC loads.
We use the middle of that range, 0.85, for every runtime on this page:
Runtime (hours) = 1,000 Wh x 0.85 ÷ appliance watts
So 850 Wh is the working number. DC loads, like USB or 12 V outputs, bypass the inverter and typically run longer.
Runtime table: what a 1000Wh solar generator can run
Each figure below is an estimate from the formula, not a measurement. Your appliance may draw more or less.
| Appliance | Watts used | Where the watts come from | Estimated runtime on 850 Wh |
|---|---|---|---|
| Full-size refrigerator | about 52 W average | ENERGY STAR median, 457 kWh/yr | about 16 hours |
| Top-freezer refrigerator | about 41 W average | ENERGY STAR median, 363 kWh/yr | about 20 hours |
| Compact refrigerator | about 28 W average | ENERGY STAR median, 244 kWh/yr | about 30 hours |
| CPAP | 30 W average | EcoFlow sample test log | about 28 hours (3.5 nights) |
| Modem, router and phone charging | 25 W average | EcoFlow sample test log | about 34 hours |
| One LED bulb (1,100 lumens) | as little as 9 W | DOE lighting guide | about 94 hours |
| Ceramic space heater on high | 1,500 W | Lasko 754200 listing | about 34 minutes |
| 1,200 W microwave | more than 1,200 W from the outlet | Panasonic lists 1,200 W cooking power | under 43 minutes of total cooking |
Fridge averages come from our analysis of the ENERGY STAR certified refrigerator dataset in September 2026: annual kWh ÷ 365 ÷ 24 hours. Those are lab ratings, and a warm kitchen or frequent door openings raise real use.
Why the refrigerator number is lower than its label
A fridge label shows a higher wattage than our table. A U.S. Department of Energy lesson explains that nameplate ratings are the maximum draw, and a refrigerator only uses that amount while the compressor runs. The compressor cycles on and off, so the daily average is far lower.
That cycling still matters for sizing. Each time the compressor starts, it draws a brief spike, which the power station’s surge rating must cover. All three 1 kWh models we compared list surge or peak figures of 2,700 W or more.
Can a 1000Wh solar generator run a microwave or coffee maker?
It depends on rated output more than capacity. Panasonic lists 1,200 W of cooking power for its NN-SN686SR microwave, and a microwave draws more than its cooking power from the outlet. Check the nameplate for input watts and compare it with the station’s rated AC output.
Short cooking sessions do not use much energy. Five minutes at 1,200 W is 100 Wh, before losses. GE notes that lower microwave power levels work by cycling the magnetron on and off, so they cut average draw but not the peak.
What a 1000Wh solar generator cannot do well
- Heat a room. A 1,500 W heater uses the full battery in about half an hour.
- Run central air, a water heater or an electric range. These need 240 V circuits or far more energy than a portable unit holds.
- Carry a full-size fridge through a 24-hour outage by itself. At the median rating it falls about 8 hours short, unless you add solar recharging. Our refrigerator and freezer sizing guide shows how many panels close that gap.
For outage planning beyond these limits, follow the step-by-step method in what size solar generator you need, or compare larger units in what a 3000 watt solar generator will run.
How to get more runtime from 1000Wh
- Use DC outputs for phones, routers and CPAPs that accept 12 V. EcoFlow notes DC output typically extends runtime compared with AC.
- Recharge during the day from solar panels or a vehicle.
- Cut standby loads. Switch off the AC inverter when nothing needs it.
- Keep the fridge closed and full. Fewer openings mean fewer compressor cycles.
- Consider a larger or expandable unit. EcoFlow lists the DELTA 3 Plus as expandable to 5 kWh with extra batteries.

Which 1000Wh solar generator should you pick?
Weight, output and warranty separate the three we compared. The Jackery Explorer 1000 v2 is the lightest at 23.8 lb. The BLUETTI AC180 holds the most energy at 1,152 Wh. The EcoFlow DELTA 3 lists the highest surge at 3,600 W.

Frequently asked questions
Can a 1000Wh solar generator run a refrigerator?
Yes, for part of a day. Using the median ENERGY STAR full-size rating of 457 kWh a year, a 1000Wh unit runs a fridge for about 16 hours. A smaller top-freezer or compact fridge runs longer.
How many nights will a 1000Wh solar generator run a CPAP?
At the 30 W average in EcoFlow's sample log, about three and a half 8-hour nights on AC. Heated humidifiers raise the draw, so check your CPAP maker's power figures and consider a DC cable.
Can a 1000Wh solar generator run a space heater?
Only briefly. A 1,500 W heater on high would drain about 850 usable Wh in roughly 34 minutes, and the unit's rated output must be at least 1,500 W. Heating is a poor use of a small battery.
Is 1000Wh the same as 1000W?
No. Watt-hours measure stored energy and set runtime. Watts measure output and set what can start. The 1 kWh models in our comparison have rated outputs of 1,500 to 1,800 W.
How long does a 1000Wh solar generator take to recharge?
It depends on the model and source. EcoFlow lists 56 minutes for a full AC charge of the DELTA 3 Plus with 1,500 W input, while BLUETTI lists 1.3 to 1.8 hours on AC for the AC180. Solar takes longer and varies with sun.
